Scientists say that the tsunami was caused by falling asteroids.
Very long ago on the Martian ocean fell by two asteroids, which led to the emergence of a megatsunami. This information was reported by the Geophysics with the EU, USA and China.
After studying geomorphological and thermal images, scientists said that about 3.4 billion years ago on the surface of the red planet fell two asteroids. After them there are few impact craters, whose diameter is more than 30 kilometers. Their traces are still visible. A numerical simulation, which was conducted by scientists showed that due to the catastrophic events on the planet were formed by tsunami waves with a height of about 100 meters each.
The first tsunami caused the release to land of a very large number of masses of liquid water with the formation of the outflow channels. A second asteroid fell later, when on the surface of Mars was already a frozen ocean. The fall of the second celestial body created the second coastline.
Proof of this is identifying the differences between the coastlines of the ocean with a height of 50 meters. Such differences could arise only as a result of the influence of the second giant tsunami.
