On Mars, found the dunes amazing shape.
The spacecraft Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has sent to Earth the bizarre landscape of the Martian surface, according to the official website of NASA.
The image was taken by HiRISE camera spacecraft Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter on 6 February 2016. The picture shows dark dunes that have adopted the original form under the influence of winds. The researchers note that their direction is practically impossible to determine due to the complexity of the terrain.
Particular attention was drawn to the shape of these dunes. Visually, they remind me of the words of Morse code, because they represent a “dash” and “points”. First, as scientists believe, are linear dunes.
They are formed under the influence of the cumulative effect of the two blows from different sides at a right angle to them winds. And “points” appear where ruptures and interrupted the process of formation of linear dunes.
NASA say that the mechanism for the creation of the dunes is so bizarre yet not very well studied. Further research in this area is planned with the new data of the HiRISE camera.
