Archaeologists from the University of tübingen have discovered traces of a large city of the bronze age in Northern Iraq.

On the finding of researchers reported on the website of the University.

The researchers found that the city was founded around the third Millennium BC and lasted for 1200 years. The researchers also found evidence that the protective wall around the city was built in the year 2700 BC, and large stone buildings – in 1800 BC. Moreover, were found fragments of the Assyrian cuneiform tablets, which date from about 1300 BC and may indicate the existence on the territory of the city of temple Mesopotamia of the weather-God Adad.

During the excavations the archaeologists also found the remains of settlements of the Acadian Empire, which is considered the first Empire in the history of mankind.

Excavations were conducted at a distance of 45 kilometers from territory controlled by ISIL. However, the head of a group of archaeologists Peter Pfalzner insists that any threat to life researchers in the course of excavations was not.
