The Pandora cluster is located about four million light-years from Earth.
Spitzer space telescope took the picture of the galaxy cluster Abell 2744, also called Pandora’s cluster. The image is available on the NASA website.
Contains the infrared at wavelengths of 3.6 microns (blue), 4.5 microns (green). Bright clumps in the picture represent a massive galaxy in the core of the cluster. They play the role of optical lenses, allowing to see between Earth and Abell 2744 objects.
The Pandora cluster is located about four million light-years from Earth in the constellation Sculptor. Approximately 75 percent of the mass of the cluster accounts for dark matter. Abell 2744 the most active in x-rays.
The Spitzer telescope operating in the infrared range, is named after the American astrophysicist Lyman Spitzer. Went into space on 25 August 2003 launch vehicle Delta II. In may 2009, the telescope ended liquid helium is used as refrigerant. This led to the collapse of the main part of the mission.
