Media revealed the plan Abe in innovative development of Russia

СМИ раскрыли план Абэ по инновационному развитию России

The Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe at the talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin presented a plan for economic cooperation, consisting of eight items. About it reports on Friday, 6 may, the Japanese newspaper Nikkei.

The plan, as the newspaper notes, is intended to help the development of innovative sectors in Russia. In particular, it provides for the construction of plants for processing liquefied gas, ports, airports, hospitals and other infrastructure, primarily in the far East.

At the same time, in parallel with cooperation, Tokyo will try to make progress in resolving the issue of the Kuril Islands, says Nikkei.

The meeting of Putin and Abe took place on may 7 in Sochi residence of the Russian leader. The Prime Minister of Japan, after talks with Russian President announced that Moscow offered a new approach to solving the problem of the Kuril Islands. The head of the Japanese government noted that he and the Russian leader agreed on the settlement of the dispute with the help of the new approach.

In turn, the Kremlin said that the theme of the Kuril Islands was raised at a meeting between Putin and Abe in a very constructive way. “The contacts will continue at the level of ministries of foreign Affairs”, — said the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

Based on the bilateral Treatise about trade and borders of 1855, Japan considers part of the Kuril Islands (Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and Habomai) its “Northern territories.” Moscow, however, says that the Kuril Islands became part of the USSR following the Second world war. The status of the Islands is determined by the Crimean agreement on the Far East of February 11, 1945, the Potsdam Declaration of 26 July 1945, the San Francisco peace Treaty of 8 September 1951 and article 107 of the UN Charter.
