American scientists have discovered new species of snakes found in North Madagascar, is a species of Ghost snakes
The animal has received the official name of Madagascarophis lolo (malag. lolo – “a Ghost”). A new species assigned to the genus Madagascarophis, or koscielny snakes. The distinctive feature of these reptiles is a vertical pupil, frequently encountered among members of the class in dense or degraded forests of Madagascar. However, Madagascarophis lolo was found in the rock formations Zingy Ankaran.
His nickname lolo Madagascarophis received in connection with a pale gray color and stealth. As reported by co-author Sarah Rouen, the discovery of “dragon of shadows” was preceded by a 27-mile trek in conditions of continuous rain. The aim of the scientists was finding a different kind.
“It was hard. We have done a lot of work, but the result has justified itself. These snakes would be hard to find even in ideal climatic conditions. They are quite elusive,” said Rouen.
Genetic analysis by DNA extraction confirmed that this new species, its closest relative is Madagascarophis fuchsi. These snakes were also found in rocky areas, 100 kilometers North of Ankarana a few years ago. The researchers then counted the number of scales on the skin of the belly, back, animals, and examined the scales on the eyes, verhnevolgye and nijaguna scales.
