Centre for ecological Sciences of the United States and aviation Laboratory in the framework of the joint programme conducted a study of the impact of lead emissions on human health.
They came to the conclusion that its negative impact can cause neurological and cognitive impairment and reduction of IQ, especially in children.
Small aircraft used for recreation, may seem completely harmless, but consumed by them leaded fuel is a very serious threat. On the share of such vessels falls the largest amount of lead emissions to the atmosphere. Unlike commercial aircraft and vehicles that do not use this type of fuel, small aircraft are the major source of lead contamination. According to the study, even these small sources of toxic pollution can have a big impact on the overall intelligence of the nation that subsequently poured into economic losses.
To obtain the results, the researchers analyzed the total amounts of aircraft emissions throughout the continental United States. With these data linked the deficit in IQ on a national scale and calculated economic losses based on the reduction of the level of intelligence. It turned out that the annual loss of cognitive function in the population, caused by lead emissions, the country loses $1 billion.
