Insufficient water intake affects the human brain

Недостаточное потребление воды влияет на мозг человекаIf you do not drink sufficient water, then the gray matter may begin to wither in the truest sense of the word, and the thought process will be hampered.

This is according to researchers Matthew Kempton and Ulrich Ettinger from the Institute of Psychiatry, king’s College, London. According to them, only 90 minutes of continuous sweating can reduce the volume of the brain, as does a year of aging.

Scientists made an experiment. They gathered young men and divided them into two groups. One group was dressed in layered clothing, including a film layer (close to the skin), a hazmat suit and a warm tracksuit. This “sandwich” was intended to increase perspiration.

The other group of people was dressed much easier in shorts and t-shirts. All participants were asked to exercise on a stationary bike for 4.5 hours. After the training, the scientists scanned their brains to determine volume.

The results spoke for themselves: people who trained in multilayered clothes, threw more body mass. But at the same time lost and the volume of the brain. The fact that in the middle of the brain there are recesses filled with liquid. When she leaves, the cavity increases its area, leading to shrinkage of brain tissue.

The average percentage of shrinkage was equal to a 14-month wear and tear associated with aging, or from 2.5 months of Alzheimer’s disease. Later were tested: pochivshim the experiment participants played a computer game that analyses the ability to plan and solve problems.

Despite the fact that actively patensie participants coped so well as the second group, the scan showed that it took greater than usual, the resources of the brain to solve proposed problems. Scientists urge not to panic. Only one glass of water will immediately return to the brain in the same form.
