In the Arctic found a ship-the legend

В Арктике обнаружили корабль-легендуThe ship lay on the seabed for more than 80 years.

Polar expedition after six years of searching, found and raised the ship “Maud” the famous discoverer of the South pole.

After six years of work, the team of Norwegian scientists has managed to raise “Mod” – a ship that once belonged to famed polar Explorer Roald Amundsen – from the seabed off the coast of the canadian territory of Nunavut near the settlement of Cambridge Bay.

On finding reports the TV station CBC.

“It’s a beautiful ship, it is very sturdy and extremely well preserved,” says project Manager Ian Vanguard.

The ship “Maud” was launched on 7 June 1917, and participated in expeditions to the Northern passage by sea under the leadership of Amundsen. The expedition continued in 1918-1920. In 1925 the ship was sold, and in five years it sank, having holes in the ice near the settlement of Cambridge Bay. Despite the fact that the ship lay on the seabed for more than 80 years, it is well preserved.

Moreover, the researchers suggest to transport the ship back to Norway.

“We should leave it at Cambridge Bay, and transported back to Norway for restoration, because otherwise sooner or later “Mod” will collapse,” says Ian Vanguard. Operation on the transport ship is scheduled for 2017.
