The ship sank in Arctic waters in 1878.
Krasnoyarsk researchers of the Russian geographical society in the shallows of the Yenisei river near the village of Goroshikha found the wreckage of the ancient British steamer “Thames.”
The ship sank in Arctic waters in 1878. The publication notes that “Thames” was the first ocean-going ship that was moving along the North-Eastern sea route and entered the mouth of the Yenisei.
“The ship lying under water at a depth of approximately 2 to 10 m. How well the boat survived — hard to say. The ship covered with silt and sand, only visible part of the aft superstructure,” — said one of the participants of the expedition Alexander Goncharov.
