The court of Qatar has issued a controversial decision in relation to nationals of the Netherlands.
The court of Qatar has sentenced a citizen of the Netherlands Laura (surname not known) to a year of probation and fined $ 800.
It was released in the courtroom.
Laura has been in custody since March. The occasion was the claim of rape, and filed in the local police. According to the woman, her drink, slipped something when she went dancing in the hotel where tourists are allowed to drink alcohol.
The next morning, according to Laura, she woke up in an unfamiliar room and immediately realized that was a victim of rape. However, after the application of not only arrested the alleged rapist, but for herself.
The reason for the detention of the woman was a local law prohibiting sex outside of marriage. Relatives of the suspect in the rape, who also was a foreigner, had invited them to get married, to avoid charges.
However, Laura on advice of counsel refused such a step. According to AFP, the man, the suspect in the rape, was also convicted and sentenced to a punishment of 100 lashes for extramarital sex and 40 lashes for alcohol consumption.
In some Muslim countries have extremely harsh laws regarding extramarital Affairs, under which and subject to the foreigners. In 2013 became widely known, the history of the Norwegian women-designer, who was jailed in the United Arab Emirates after she told the police about the rape.
In the end, she was sentenced to 16 months in prison, and the man she accused of rape, 13 months – both for fornication and alcohol consumption. In July of the same year condemned were pardoned.
