The peacekeepers were ambushed, three of them managed to survive.
In Mali town of Kidal in the attack the militants killed five UN peacekeepers. About it reports a press-service of the OSCE Secretary General ban Ki-moon.
“According to preliminary information, the convoy of MINUSMA (multidimensional integrated United Nations mission for stabilization in Mali) drove over an improvised explosive device, after which it opened fire by unknown armed persons. During the attack, five peacekeepers from Chad were killed and three more got wounds”, – stated in the message.
UN Secretary-General condemned the attack of militants, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and urged to bring the perpetrators of the murder of the peacekeepers to justice.
He also reminded that attacks against peacekeepers are considered a war crime.
According to the UN, since the beginning of year has occurred more than ten attacks against peacekeepers in the area of Kidal. The number of deaths taking into account the latest victims of the attacks reached twelve.
