Schiaparelli hit the ground and fell from a height of two to four kilometers
The landing module Schiaparelli mission “ExoMars-2016” has suffered accident at landing on Mars. This was reported in the European space Agency (ESA).
According to the Agency, the accident module has occurred after Schiaparelli falling from a height of from two to four miles, gained a significant speed.
In ESA, do not exclude the possibility that the device exploded when hitting the ground. Earlier it was reported that from the module, Schiaparelli, which is estimated that was supposed to arrive at Mars on October 19, receives a signal, but no data telemetry.
He entered the Martian atmosphere at an altitude of about 122.5 miles at a speed of about 21 thousand kilometers per hour. The module’s parachute opened at an altitude of about 11 kilometers at a speed of 1650 miles per hour.
Mission “ExoMars-2016” was launched on 14 March 2016 from Baikonur after the launch of the carrier rocket “proton-M” spacecraft within the orbital module TGO (Trace Gas Orbiter) and a demonstration of the descent module Schiaparelli.
19 Oct TGO entered the orbit of Mars. The orbital module TGO SPACECRAFT is designed to study trace gases of the atmosphere and the distribution of water ice in the Mars soil.
Equipment on Board the Schiaparelli, was designed to study electric fields on the surface of Mars, to understand the occurrence of dust storms on this planet.
