10 robots started work as customs officers at three ports of Guangdong province, China.
New workers appeared at the ports of Gongbei, Hengqin and Zhongshan. Robots Xiao Hai is modeled on the basis of innovative technologies “active perception”, which allows them not only to move and answer the usual questions, but also to learn.
In particular, the robot can respond to visitors ‘ questions in 28 languages, among them Cantonese, Chinese, English and Japanese. With the face detection function the robots can even point to a suspicious person. The developers acknowledge that Xiao Hai can not completely replace regular staff, in some cases the human factor.
However, in the future technological progress will allow to fully automate the service process at the customs.
