The international Union for the protection of animals counted the number of elephants living in Africa.
It turned out that the population in 10 years decreased by 111 thousand individuals.
Today Africa is home to about 400 thousand elephants, 100-150 thousand individuals can live in places that are inaccessible to systematic observation. Such a significant decline in the population of scientists associated only with poaching, increased in the 70-80 years of the last century.
“Poachers are chasing a very valuable ivory. That is the main reason for this decline in the number of individuals”, – noted in the report of the international Union.
