The developers believe that this is a very short time for such a project. There were 7 different models of the droid. Between the creators called these models Trike, and they were provided with additional external wheels for stability and ease of maneuvering in front of the camera. At the stage of post-production all the external elements were removed by the masters at computer graphics.
At the same time the droid was ruled by at least two operators using two different remotes. During filming it turned out that all BB-8 is not so simple. For the premiere of the first trailer of the film has created a unique model BB-8. She was devoid of any outer wheels and 100% resembled what the spectators could see directly in the film.
