Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and the aerospace company Blue Origin, his plans regarding the future missiles for the delivery of satellites and people into orbit. Two – and three-stage New Glenn will be the largest of the world’s rockets that will start in space till the end of this decade, writes ArsTechnica.
The rocket will be named in honor of John Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth. New Glenn will be working on seven next-generation engines BE-4. The two-stage version of the missile will be seven meters in diameter and 82.2 feet high. Thrust at sea level is equal to 1.74 tonnes. The rocket engines will run on liquefied natural gas and liquid oxygen.
The most powerful of the current rockets (Delta IV), according to ArsTechnica, has a thrust of 0.95 thousand tons at sea level. The projected Falcon Heavy Elon musk claims a thrust of 2.3 million tons.
The three-stage rocket New Glenn will ascend above the surface on 95,4 meter with a single engine BE-3 in the upper stage. It will be designed for missions beyond low-earth orbit (more than 2,000 km from the planet). Jeff Bezos claims that the new missiles and the engines will be reusable. The first stage is constructed with the expectation of a minimum of 25 flights.
Bezos stressed that this will be the first and smallest orbital rocket developed by Blue Origin. The following should be the New Armstrong. And judging by the title, it will face the task of conquering the moon.
