Stephen Hawking believes that humanity should be careful, responding to alien signals because an advanced civilization could colonize the planet, tells MailOnline. This is a British physicist said in a short documentary on the exoplanet Gliese 832 c, which may be similar to the Earth.
The film was presented at the service CuriosityStream whose content is video on science, technology, history and nature. In it Hawking “travels” in space, talking about various objects, including black hole Sagittarius A*. The physicist also “attends” Gliese 832 c — exoplanet, remote from the Sun at a distance of 16 light years. This world could be a second Earth, inhabited by an alien civilization, as its distance from the parent star implies the presence of liquid water on the surface.
According to Hawking, one day mankind may receive a signal from intelligent beings inhabiting a planet similar to Gliese 832 c, but do not rush to answer them, because “brothers on reason” may be good intentions.
