A court in France sentenced a Dutch dentist to eight years in prison for the maiming of 120 patients. The court also forbade him to engage in medical activities.
51-year-old Jacobus van Nierop, nicknamed the “dentist of horror”, worked in the small town of Chateau-Chinon in Central France.
According to investigators, he caused a serious injury to his patients under heavy sedation: some of them came out of the office with a broken jaw, ripped out teeth or sore gums.
One of the patients stated that he at one time pulled out her eight teeth, then her jaw was bleeding for three days.
Investigators say van Nirop get pleasure from causing pain to patients.
Protection of the defendant argued that the defendant had mental problems. Paul van Nierop at the hearing, showed no emotion and did not comment.
The dentist was arrested in June of 2013, but he managed to flee the country and move to Canada, where he was extradited in 2014.
