Toys installed on the iPad was as effective as sedative drugs.
Scientists have stated that the iPad and toys mounted on them, have been equally effective in calming children before surgery, as sedative drugs used by the doctors at the moment.
On their findings, the researchers reported at a meeting of the World Congress of anaesthesiologists in Hong Kong. The researchers conducted a test on children who underwent treatment in a clinic in Lyon, and their parents. More than a hundred pairs of volunteers were divided into two groups: in one, children were calmed with a sedative drug midazolam, and the second tried to divert their attention with games installed on the iPad.
The behavior of all children upon their arrival to the hospital and getting on the operating table, watched two professional psychologist, to evaluate their level of anxiety on a 100-point scale. The researchers found that the games would have the same effect as sedatives, in contact with the child to the hospital, the separation of the parents and when entering anesthesia.
It is worth noting that the tablet had no significant advantages over the drug, but this substitution is more like parents and medical staff.
