Experts have told how the diet is dangerous for the health of the liver.
It is known that excessive salt consumption can cause high blood pressure. The results obtained by scientists from China and the UK, suggests that a diet high in salt is dangerous for the liver – it can harm the health of adults and future children.
In order to find out how salt affects the cells of the liver, Suyong Yang and his colleagues have conducted a series of experiments on mice. Adult animals were fed with a high salt content. The excess sodium led to serious changes in the structure of the liver of rodents, the cell shape has changed, the level of proliferation decreased, while apoptosis occurred much more frequently. All this led to the development of liver fibrosis.
The researchers also managed to show that the changes were not irreversible. Under the action of vitamin C they partially managed to cope with the negative effect of salt and to restore the normal functioning of liver cells.
