In the Colombian jungle were found the next miracle of evolution.
Scientists have discovered a new species of Orchid that grows in the forests of Colombia on the border between the departments of Putumayo and nariño.
As reported in an article published in the journal PhytoKeys, the new species belongs to the genus Telipogon and was named diabolicus (the devil).
According to scientists, at the moment there are about 3.6 thousand species of orchids, representing 250 genera of these plants that grow in Colombia. However, the researchers suggest that there are hundreds of types of orchids that are not yet open.
Telipogon diabolicus like the head of a devil or demon, its petals ornamented with claws and spikes. The size of the “devil” flowers are small, with stems and inflorescence length is 10-15 inches.
The flower grows in a small strip of tropical forest. At the moment the researchers found 30 representatives of this species, of which only a few were older flowering plants. Researchers have already brought a new look in the red book.
