The question related to the frequency and regularity of falling space objects on Jupiter, for quite a long time interested in the international astronomical community. According to their opinion, such information is necessary in order to perform the “absorbent” properties of the planet and assess the level of probable danger from the falling asteroids and comets that threaten Earth.
According to a message sent from Mark, Delcroix, coordinator of the program of observations of Jupiter, the process of falling perpetrated by a meteor or other celestial body, can be easily tracked, but for this it is necessary to conduct continuous observation of the planet, but due to some circumstances professional scientists are unable to do so. Because of this, assembled a group, consisting of 60 Amateur astronomers, which carried out surveillance of Jupiter in continuous operation for three years.
During this period, in total there were 19.5 cases of falling of celestial bodies onto the surface of Jupiter, that is, 6.5 objects every year. Recall that Jupiter is one of the main “conductors” of the Solar system, carrying out the functions of traffic control a variety of comets and asteroids, which orbit near the planet.
