Japanese astronomers using the ALMA telescope have discovered a baby star surrounded by a hot and dense cloud consisting of complex molecules.
As reported on the website of the European southern Observatory, the molecular cloud is similar to the type first discovered beyond the milky Way.
The chemical composition of clouds is substantially different from clouds, which are observed in our galaxy, which indicates much more than has hitherto been considered to be a variety of chemical processes in the Universe.
Researchers observed the massive star ST11, which is the galaxy called the Small Magellanic cloud. Astronomers have registered the radiation of different molecular gases, which form relatively hot and dense compact molecular region around just burning stars ST11. Outside the milky Way such objects hot molecular core has never been observed.
Observations of researchers show that the chemical composition found in the LMC kernel is very different from the composition of similar objects in the milky Way. It the most visible signs of the presence of such molecules as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, formaldehyde, as well as the usual space dust. But some organic compounds such as methanol (the simplest alcohol molecule), were unusually weak at that time, as in the cores observed in the milky Way, contains a rich assortment of complex organic molecules, including methanol and ethanol.
It is unclear whether there are large complex molecules found in the milky Way, in the hot molecular cores of other galaxies. Complex organic molecules are of particular interest because some of them are emerging in space prebiotic molecules prior to the origin of life.
