A brief guide to the Northern attractions of Russia

Norilsk is considered the most Northern of the large (population over 100 thousand) cities in the world. In the XVI century in that area there was the city Mangazeya, trade and handicraft center of the Arctic. However, by the seventeenth century it fell into decay and gradually disappeared.
The first building in the history of modern Norilsk, was built in 1921, during the expedition of the Arctic Explorer Nikolai Urvantsev. From June to August in the Northern forest of the world comes the polar day, the sun almost set behind the horizon, and the temperature sometimes exceeds 30 degrees. Of trees grow here, only the Dahurian larch, which reaches a height of five to seven meters.
