Among the contenders for the International man Booker prize there are only six people

В числе претендентов на Международную Букеровскую премию осталось всего шесть человек

The jury of the International Booker prize made a short list of precedents for the award. According to the newspaper the Guardian, a final round six writers. They were Jose Eduardo Agualusa (Angola, A General Theory of Oblivion), Elena Ferrante (Italy, The Story of The Lost Child), Han Kang (South Korea, The Vegetarian), Jan Lanke (China, The Four Books), Robert Sitler (Austria, A Whole Life) and Orhan Pamuk (Turkey, A Strangeness in My Mind).

This award, unlike the classic Booker prize, awarded annually since 1969 to writers from the UK and Commonwealth countries, was established only in 2005 and to date has been awarded only six times (every two years). However, starting this year the best author, writing not in English, will be determined annually.

The winner can be any writer whose work was translated into English. But there is one caveat: the monetary component (50 thousand pounds) will have to share with the translator, thanks to whose efforts the book became available to ordinary Britons.

This year the jury evaluated a total of 155 works, written by authors from around the world. 13 of them made the long list, and only 6 in short. Interestingly, the representatives of Angola, Austria, South Korea, Turkey first came to him.

The winner will be announced on may 16.
