The house of representatives of the United States Congress advised NASA to forget about the mission to capture an asteroid and return to manned flights to the moon.
This decision was taken during consideration of the budget for next year, as according to members of the lower house, the Moon is the best springboard for development of the technology needed to travel to Mars, scheduled to make in the middle of 2030-ies.
Earlier in the administration of President Barack Obama were convinced that one of the main directions of the US space program should be sending astronauts to an asteroid.
The United States intends to land astronauts on an asteroid in 2025. For the needs of this mission, NASA has requested to 66.7 million dollars, however, Congress rejected the application, explaining that it is necessary to return to manned flights to the moon.
