What to expect from the Council Russia-NATO?

Что ожидать от Совета Россия-НАТО?

Today in Brussels will host a meeting of the Council Russia-NATO at the level of permanent representatives. This was the second meeting over the past two years. The focus will be the topic of military security after the NATO summit in Warsaw. Many experts have expressed pessimism about the progress from this meeting, because tensions between the parties just increases.

These forecasts are not surprising, as recent behavior of the North Atlantic Alliance became even more rude, NATO continues to strengthen its military presence in Europe, while focusing on contrived “threat of Russia”. Simply put, there are doing everything to further destabilize the already complicated relations with Moscow.

According to the Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg, at a meeting with Russia to discuss the crisis in Ukraine, the need for full implementation of the Minsk agreements, military activities, with particular emphasis on risk mitigation and the situation in Afghanistan.

Previously, as you know, the foreign Minister gave a sharply negative assessment to the results of the NATO summit in Warsaw. Therefore, according to him, the Central theme of the meeting will be the decision of the Alliance summit to increase military presence on the “Eastern flank”.

Briefly about the NATO summit in Warsaw.

At the meeting, the participants adopted a Declaration on transatlantic security. In particular, NATO countries agreed to strengthen the defense of Europe in the face of “Russian aggression”. Also at the Warsaw summit, it was decided on the placement of four battalions of NATO in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland. Battalions the total composition in four thousand people will be there in 2017.

As for Ukraine, it was approved the aid package to Kiev. As explained Stoltenberg, he will “make the institutions of defence and security of Ukraine more efficient and responsible“.

The funny thing is that due to the ongoing sick NATO hysteria about “Russian threat”, they want to continue the dialogue with Moscow. The Alliance stomps, not childish, otherwise how to explain such behavior of NATO? As far as possible adequate dialogue with Russia, when our country is constantly referred to global threat (?!).

What can you say about the upcoming meeting? I guess do not expect to change the position of NATO, as well as any changes of increased NATO activity along Russia’s borders. But skeptical about the meeting, too, is impossible: the dialogue between Russia and NATO in the face of growing environment is extremely important. The position of the Alliance we understand that the time has come for Moscow to define its position on key issues. Waiting for the outcome of the meeting.
