What are the risks of dry eye syndrome

Чем грозит синдром сухого глазаDry eye syndrome also known as keratoconjunctivitis.

Dry eye syndrome can happen for a number of reasons, including because of high temperatures and / or climate change, hormonal changes in the body or as a side effect of taking certain medications.

Dry eye syndrome also known as keratoconjunctivitis – it is one of the most common reasons for which people turn for help to an ophthalmologist. They suffer about 3 100 people overall, mostly middle-aged and elderly.

Dry eye syndrome means that our tear glands do not produce enough tears, or they dry out too quickly. Glands, which help us to keep the eye moist, blocked or not working properly. This can cause symptoms such as eye pain, blurred vision, redness, a burning sensation and the feeling of presence in the eyes of the foreign object. In some people these symptoms can be serious enough to affect their health and quality of life.

Dry eye syndrome is usually treated with anti-inflammatory drops, which helps to reduce puffiness and “unblock” the channels of the sebaceous glands. But they can cause side effects such as burning, pressure in the eyes and even lead to cataract. Therefore, scientists are developing other drugs that can treat the symptoms of keratoconjunctivitis, without causing so many problems.
