WADA will become stronger and richer

WADA станет сильнее и богаче

The heads of the national anti-doping agencies from 17 countries called for reform of the World anti-doping Agency. According to the participants of the Copenhagen summit, the organization must receive more authority and additional investment.

“At a crossroads in the fight for clean sport

The world anti-doping Agency (WADA) is waiting for serious change. The leaders of 17 national departments met at a special summit in Copenhagen to discuss future reform of WADA.

They are not satisfied with the current state of Affairs in the organization, which they believe affects the interests of clean athletes and anti-doping services are not sufficiently integrated in modern sport.

“We are at a crossroads in the fight for clean sport.

From my heart wishing all the best pure athletes we have gathered to discuss the reforms that we hope will better protect them, return the trust to anti-doping agencies, seriously compromised in recent times, and will ensure that the latest dramatic events won’t happen again”, — said in the General statement of the heads of anti-doping agencies.

The reason for the new Assembly were the last scandalous events in the world of doping, in particular the investigations of independent commissions WADA, headed by Richard McLaren against Russia. Put forward their recommendations were not adopted before the end of the world sporting community. In particular, the World anti-doping Agency are unable to achieve complete removal of Russia from the summer Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), although, according to the organization, she was able to prove the existence of the system in the country sponsoring the doping of the state.

More money and powers

The summit is primarily offered to make WADA more independent that the leaders of the Agency could not simultaneously hold positions in other sports organizations. Innovation may relate, in particular, the anti-doping Agency President Craig reedy, who is also Vice-President of the IOC.

The meeting also raised the idea to amend the WADA code, expanding the powers of the Agency, increasing investment in him and giving him the opportunity to apply pre-agreed sanctions in cases of large-scale subversive activities against the anti-doping system.

In addition, the leaders of the anti-doping agencies urged to deprive sports organisations of opportunities to test, investigate and impose sanctions to prevent situations where a sport organization at the same time forced to investigate their own actions and to promote your sport.

Finally, the forum supported calls to assist in ensuring the safety of the informants WADA — Russian runner Yulia Stepanova and her husband Vitaly.

Proposals were written and approved by the leaders of the anti-doping agencies of Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Singapore, Switzerland, UK and USA and the Institute of national anti-doping organizations (INADO).

Russian anti-doping Agency (RUSADA) has refused to give comments about possible reform of WADA. Upon request of the correspondent “Газеты.Ru” the organization refused.

Russian trace

In July of this year, the discussion of doping in the world and, in particular, the Russian sport has reached its peak after the release of the report of the McLaren.

The paper argues that the Moscow anti-doping laboratory was supported complicit in the doping of athletes in the imposed state system, the laboratory in Sochi used a unique method to replace the doping of the sample, and the Ministry of sports of Russia was in control of tampering with the FSB and the Center of sports preparation of national teams of Russia.

The data presented in the report has caused enormous damage to the image of Russian sports.

For a long time it seemed that the Russian team will not take part in the Brazilian Olympics, but in the end, the IOC reached a compromise, giving a decision on the admission of Russian athletes at the mercy of the federations of different sports.

In the end, the Russian team lost athletes, weightlifters and several representatives of other sports, a total of losing a third of the whole.

In early August the head of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Philip Craven declared the suspension of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RCC) in the ranks of the organization.

This decision was made including on the basis of the report of the McLaren, which featured 35 of the names associated with the Paralympic movement in Russia. All Paralympic national team was ousted from the Games in Rio in 2016 and in Pyeongchang in 2018.
