The administration of U.S. President Barack Obama refused to place new installations for drilling of oil and gas wells in the waters of the Atlantic ocean. This decision was taken in connection with the mass protests of environmentalists.
As reports Bloomberg referring to a source in the Ministry of internal Affairs of the country, environmental activists and local residents expressed concerns that drilling activity will threaten marine life, fishing and tourism on the East coast.
Initially the U.S. planned to hold an auction for the right to conduct drilling on a plot of 104 million acres (421 sq km) in the Atlantic in 2021. However, environmentalists sharply criticized the project.
