Accommodation battalions of NATO in Poland and the Baltic States will begin in 2017.
President Barack Obama said that the United States would send an additional one thousand us troops in Poland as part of NATO’s efforts to strengthen its presence on the Eastern flank of the Alliance.
He said this in Warsaw after meeting with President of Poland Andrzej Duda during the summit.
The battalion, led the USA is one of the four sent by NATO to the region on a rotational basis. The move is designed to serve as a deterrent to Russia.
NATO will start placing battalions in Poland and the Baltic States in 2017, said the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“Today we have taken the next steps, we decided to increase our military presence in the Eastern part of the Alliance. Four battalions in Poland and in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (will be posted) on a rotational basis,” – said the Secretary General.
According to him, it will happen in 2017.
These battalions will be multinational. “They will demonstrate the power of the Alliance and the fact that an attack on any NATO member will be considered as an attack on NATO as a whole”, – said Stoltenberg.
According to Stoltenberg, Canada will oversee the placement of the battalion in Latvia, Germany, Lithuania, UK, Estonia, and the United States in Poland.
