Ukraine expects to launch the satellite “Lybid” in 2017

Launch of Ukrainian satellite Lybid is planned from the Baikonur cosmodrome in the next year.

The launch was planned for back in 2011, but the start was constantly postponed. This is referred to in the response of the State space Agency of Ukraine (GKAU) on the request of TASS.

“At the moment, the State space Agency of Ukraine implements measures to ensure the launch of the spacecraft Lybid in 2017”, – the document says.

The Agency confirmed that Rus is fully assembled, tested, and is in the storage mode on the territory of JSC “Information satellite systems” in Krasnoyarsk and “ready to be shipped to the Baikonur cosmodrome”.

We add that the delayed launch of the satellite is associated in particular with the loss of ground control complex of satellite because of the occupation of the Crimea Russians. Now any cooperation with Russia in the military-industrial complex is prohibited.

The satellite aims to providing services for regional and international broadcasting, direct broadcasting, services, multimedia and Internet, as well as providing transmission of data, telephony, video conferencing and Internet-based VSAT.
