Turkey breaks relations with the United States

Турция рвет отношения с США

On the night of July 16, occurred the event, without exaggeration, stirred up the whole world. No joke, the attempted coup occurred in the country member of NATO, which is the second power of army in the block. And this attempt made by none other than the very same military. Rather, part of them.

The attempt was unsuccessful, President Erdogan, appeared on the air via cell phone and looking confused, already recovered and launched a purge of the security forces.

Many still wonder, despite all the adventurous policy of the current President of Turkey, what happened really?

There are several versions explaining what happened. According to the first one the whole reason of long-standing disagreements between Erdogan and the military, expressing their discontent in 2011 when Erdogan has subjected them to foreign intelligence. Not satisfied with the military and the policy of Islamization of the country, which is led by Erdogan, and a retreat from kemalistic values. The peak of the confrontation, until yesterday could be considered a failure of the army to invade Syria.

Erdogan himself has a different opinion. From the first minute he without any hesitation called the organizer of the coup, the famous preacher, his former ally, and now the first enemy of Fethullah Gulen, currently residing in the USA. Disagreements between them have a long history and affect all spheres of life: Erdogan is a follower of traditional Islam, gülen – advocate of the so-called “euroislam”, trying to combine Islamic ideology with Western values; Erdogan for authoritarian methods of government, gülen – democratic; Erdogan advocates the overthrow of Assad, gülen believes Syrian President fighter with terrorists.

Which of these versions of what happened is correct, the judge still early, but it is clear that the Turkish government had already decided for themselves who is his enemy number one.

Erdogan’s behavior has always been unpredictable, but his latest remarks are indeed on the brink of a foul. Calling the organizer of the coup, Gulen, he thereby indirectly accuses the United States: the opposition leader, has been granted political asylum and living in Pennsylvania, without any doubt linked to the CIA. But this is not enough, the Prime Minister of Turkey, Binali Yildirim has openly expressed hostility to the States, bluntly declaring:

“The country is harboring opposition Gulen, is not a friend of Turkey.”

What is Erdogan explicitly renouncing the long-term “friendship”? After all, he not only loses the ally and patron, but breaks up with longtime dream of being adopted in the EU, although maybe after the “Breccia” and growing differences in the European Union this dream is not so attractive.

Perhaps the fact that Erdogan realized that the US is going it “merge”. Hints of it have already been. Recently in the American press regularly began to appear articles criticizing the ways of the reign of Erdogan. Back in the spring leading columnist for The International Herald Tribune Jonathan Powell his article listed a number of signs of authoritarianism in the current Turkish regime and accused the President Erdogan’s dictatorial ambitions.

Absolutely categorical statements are made and a senior fellow at the analytical center of political forecasts Stratfor Michael Rubin on the official website of the American enterprise Institute: “Erdogan is out of control, he’s imprisoning of journalists and scholars, students and military, he builds palaces with the speed of the “mad Sultan”. …his emotional outbursts cause confusion not only in Turkey but also overseas, even members of his own party are whispering about his growing paranoia”.

It is noteworthy that all articles of this kind ended with the prediction of a military coup. And the words of the head of the Israeli secret services “Nativ” Yaakov Kadience than incitement, and not be called:

“If the Turkish military tries to overthrow the Erdogan regime and to hide his inner circle behind bars, if they can get away with it? Definitely, Yes.

Erdogan could not understand what it all means. Although he certainly hoped to the last that he so simply can not merge. But apparently, when there was already an attempt to implement the prediction, no doubt, he left, and he decided to go for broke.

Understanding that it is going to deal with the need to acquire a new strong friend, may be explained by his belated apology to Russia.

But the situation for Erdogan, frankly, a stalemate. The US is unlikely to forgive Erdogan for his audacity and will take all steps to put the presumptuous political player on the scene. The first bell for the President of Turkey was a clear hint from John Kerry that the country can get rid of the scruff of NATO. And the reason for that will, for many laughable for the violation of democratic freedoms. That’s really what had never cared.

To expect that Russia will host in the arms of the one who had once caused her “stab in the back”, too naive. At least not without considerable concessions for themselves. Although this was to be expected: the errors always have to pay.
