Tomorrow in Belarus the day “removing the zeros” of rubles

Завтра в Белоруссии день "убирания нулей" из рублей

Tomorrow is July 1, Belarus awaits the denomination, the currency will lose four zeros.

The decision about holding the denomination back in November last year, the President took Alexander Lukashenko. It will be the largest in the history of the country. Results will be released seven banknote denominations (5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 rubles) and eight denominations of coins (1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and 1 and 2 rubles).

It is expected that by early morning of July 1, Bank customers will be able to make full use of payment cards, as well as the entire banking infrastructure. Certain difficulties in the population and guests of the Republic already there. Not everyone just deal with the price tags, because stores today are specified at the same time prices in the new and old money.

According to experts, the denomination — a long-awaited step. After the crisis of 2008 was a series of successive devaluations of the Belarusian ruble. Inflation, for example, in 2011 reached 108%, in 2012 — 22%, in 2015 — 13%.

However, according to experts, “removal of the zeros” will not solve problems such as the export orientation of economy, low competitiveness of products, and a very high level of state subsidies.

It is also necessary to say that any denomination is always the loss to the population and business, as small coins are almost always first remain unclaimed for exchange, and then cease to be and thus, in sum, about 100-200 million rubles from the holders of quietly disappear. Plus the rounding of prices in a big way. Plus business and government bear the costs for the reprogramming of payment systems and terminals. Then, in the long term, these costs should be recouped, but they are likely to be first shifted onto the shoulders of citizens.
