To live to a hundred years: rosemary, fish and sex

Italian scientists from Sapienza University (Sapienza University), in collaboration with a research group from the Medical school of San Diego (San Diego School of Medicine) received the first results of the studies that have been done in the Italian village of Acciaroli.

The inhabitants of this village are characterized by high life expectancy and good health even in old age they rarely develop heart disease, dementia and other chronic diseases. It’s surprising that the number of centenarians was about the same among men and women – usually women live longer than men.

A group of Italian and American scientists led by Mazel Alan (Alan Maisel) plans to disclose the secret of longevity of the inhabitants of the Italian village of Acciaroli. In this village there are 300 people, whose age exceeds 100 years.

The residents themselves believe that the secret to their longevity is proper nutrition. They adhere to the so-called Mediterranean diet, their diet is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, olive oil and fish. They explain that eating all natural vegetables and fruits contain the chickens and rabbits and fish. In addition, the location of the village has good environment – Acciaroli is located far from major settlements and industries.

Alan Meisel (Alan S. Maisel and his colleagues surveyed 80 people, 25 of which already a hundred years old. They claim that the residents of Acciaroli eat a lot of rosemary, which, as shown earlier, has a positive effect on the brain. Not to mention an active lifestyle that lead people – they are engaged in agriculture, fishing and garden. In addition, even in old age many of them retain sexual activity.

Scientists have discovered that the condition of the circulatory system of the majority of the study participants was much better than peers from other regions, and many much younger people. The reason is still unclear, but scientists hope to find the answer to this question, because in this case the experience of the residents of Acciaroli can be useful to everyone else.
