During stressful situations or after a stressful day there is nothing better than a soothing Cup of tea, and now experts know why are we so drawn to this drink.

Portuguese scientists from the University of Coimbra found that tea protects the body from the damaging effects of stress and possible depression.

Scientists from University College London also found that people who drank real tea 4 times a day for 6 weeks, cope with stress faster than those who drank tea or placebo.

So, participants who drank the tea had lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol in the blood after stress, than participants in the control group who drank the tea placebo.

Researchers believe that the findings can lead to new methods of treating mental diseases such as stress disorders and depression.
