The island hashima has a rich history.
At one time hashima island (Hanajima) was one of the most promising and populous Islands of Japan. In 1810 on the island discovered the coal. Here there are many mines and military factories. However, this very soon, the coal reserves were exhausted and the island was deserted. In 1974 the mine was finally closed.
This island has turned into a real Ghost. The government of Japan has decided to ban the visit to the island in order to prevent the looting of household objects from the dead city. However, they are accessible only to specially equipped for a safe stay of the island.
In 2008 this island is proposed to amend the list of world heritage of UNESCO. However, this caused a major diplomatic disputes. The fact is that during the Second world war the Japanese used in the local mines gratuitous Korean forced labor, killing many people. Despite this, in 2015, hashima island was included in the world heritage list in the “industrial revolution of the Meiji period: metallurgy, shipbuilding and the coal industry”.
