These products are able to significantly reduce the risk of cancer

American scientists have identified in young shoots broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts contains sulforaphane, which may protect against cancer and make existing anticancer drugs more effective.

Scientists conducted an experiment to find out whether regular consumption of foods rich in sulforaphane, on the health of older people. In total, the study involved 28 people over the age of 50, they have all undergone the procedure a biopsy of the colon.

It turned out that in the samples taken from people who consumed a large amount of broccoli and other dark green vegetables, the level of expression of protein p16, is a tumor suppressor, was significantly higher than those who followed other diets.

In experiments on cell lines previously conducted, scientists also confirmed that sulforaphane has antitumor effects, its addition inhibited cell growth of colorectal cancer and prostate cancer.

Scientists speculate that sulforaphane somehow affect cellular metabolism, which leads to increased expression of the tumor suppressor. Thus regular consumption of broccoli can help the body better fight cancer, they say.
