A team of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of technology (MIT) have created a new super battery life, which can fundamentally change the electric industry. This design not only contains carbon but has a higher capacity than conventional rechargeable batteries.

All classic-style batteries known to be used carbonaceous anodes for the manufacture of which required harsh chemicals and high temperature. However, MIT scientists in collaboration with researchers from Argonne National Laboratory took a different path, reports Inhabitat.

They used metal-organic structures (metal organic frameworks – MOF). As it turned out, these elements can produce significantly more electricity per unit area than carbonaceous materials. And since the battery efficiency is largely dependent on the area of the anode, the MOF makes a wonderful replacement for carbon.

Moreover, the production of metal-organic structures does not require the same conditions, which are made of conventional carbon anodes. As a result, the environmental friendliness of electric vehicles (electric vehicles — EV) increases as the production of batteries for them is not going to pollute the environment.

And in addition, will increase the mileage of EV, because the capacity of new superaccumulation significantly higher classic. Increased number of charge cycles: during testing after 10 thousand cycles of the battery with MOF have not lost even 10% capacity.

The MIT team also said that their development can be applied in the construction of large storage of electricity, which have recently become a new trend in the global energy sector.
