The new York times: NATO gives Russia a choice: to die or to kneel

ИноСМИ: НАТО дает России выбор - умереть или встать на колени

In the world the risk of nuclear war has never been so high and it is associated with the capacity of NATO on the territory of the European countries that border Russia.

Write about the doctors and active members of the movement for peace Leif Elinder, Anders Romelle and Martin Yelen. According to experts, these countries will be the main target if Putin decides to respond. Previously, the ability to strike back served as a convincing deterrent. But now in the relative safety of nuclear parity is no more. Russia and the United States openly accuse each other in creating an existential threat.

The buildup of American nuclear weapons, as well as the fact that the United States is gradually surrounded by Russia, led to the emergence of extremely dangerous and unstable situation. It becomes harder to resist the advantages of the first strike, analysts said.

Romania and Poland with the help of NATO placed the latest “defensive” missile defense system called Aegis Ashore. President Putin has warned the two countries that they will become the first target if an armed conflict breaks out.

The authors recall that the former Secretary of defense William Perry (William Perry) warns that the risk of nuclear war is higher today than ever before, due to the fact that NATO broke agreements not to expand to the East, concluded after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Since then, the number of Alliance members has increased from 13 to 28.

Also, NATO forces illegally invaded Yugoslavia in 1999 and separated from her Kosovo. In addition, in 2001, was terminated by the Treaty on the limitation of anti-ballistic missile systems.

While in Romania and Poland there were anti-missile bases, which are easy to retool for the use of offensive weapons. In recent years the American system of nuclear weapons has been modernized, which cost the country one trillion dollars.

A few years ago, the United States supported the illegal military coup in Ukraine in 2014. The NATO Alliance has secured a strategic advantage in terms of ability to strike first.

In comparison with Russia, NATO spends on weapons 10 times more money. Many countries believe that by joining NATO, will receive protection. But in a situation of asymmetric military-strategic balance, the effect will be the opposite. If the US or NATO will attack from one of the bases near the borders of Russia, the Russian command will not have time to react.

That is, NATO offers Russia a choice of three alternatives:

1. To surrender and accept the role of vassal state of the United States;

2. To expect when NATO will strike the first blow, and denied the opportunity to defend themselves;

3. To strike first, using a tactical weapon against missiles and NATO bases in Europe, representing a direct threat, and hope that the US will not want revenge, risking a counterattack on their own territory (Donald trump has already hinted that the US does not intend to unconditionally stand up for their NATO partners).

President Putin has indicated that Russia is considering the third scenario. The only question is when. In any case, Europe will be the loser.
