26-year-old Briton has received a bionic hand from a computer game.
26-year-old Briton James young, who lost his limbs in an accident, became a participant of the pilot programme from the game company Konami.
The man had a unique bionic arm, as the hero of the famous video game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain snake.
It is noted that the arm design was developed by the artist, who previously worked on the special effects for movies. Also the prosthesis worked in company Open Bionics.
In 2012 James had fallen between the cars of a moving train and suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured skull, facial injuries, broken ribs and fractures in the spine, then he lost his left arm and leg. The helicopter ambulance he was taken to London, and it is almost two weeks was in a coma. It took 12 operations to restore his face and body.
Yang was discharged from the hospital after three and a half months. Then he received a standard prosthesis, which he describes as “ugly”. In addition to limited capacity, who had his new limbs, the British faced difficulties in their management. It was difficult to return to work yet due to the strong painkillers, which helped to deal with phantom pains, but forced him to tire quickly.
A year later, young responded to the announcement of the game Konami who are looking for the person with an amputated limb to test futuristic bionic arm. The Briton was the subject of a documentary BBC3, which showed how his new arm, and said that it built watches, laser lights and a USB port for charging the phone, and the shoulder is attached to a small drone.
The bionic limb can detect muscle signals via sensors attached to the skin of the young, and is powered by a battery.
“I don’t want to look like Terminator, because my job involves talking with doctors about the medications they use. I don’t want to look like I’m going to kill someone,” shared Yang.
It is noted that despite all the advantages of bionic limbs, James can’t carry it all the time: a hand has to remove in the shower, at bedtime, and in order to rest of its weight is 4.7 kg. In addition, the hand periodically required adjustments, as this is a prototype.
