The Indians left the Americans without oil

Индейцы оставили американцев без нефти

The actions of the protesting Indians in the state of North Dakota stopped working one of the largest pipelines in the country. Native Americans are confident that the launch of the pipeline will cause irreparable damage to the environment. The company is engaged in construction, filed a lawsuit in Federal court against the protesters.

In total, the protest involved 200 to 400 people. In fact, the Indians occupied the territory, which was to complete the construction of the pipeline and cause it to run. Many of the protesters arrived on horseback. Some of them were drums, which they used to attract attention to himself.

At the moment, local authorities arrested 16 people, but this attracted even greater number of Indians. In the result, the police had to release the leader of the protest, who spent a day in jail. The pipeline had to cross the Missouri river and cover from 4 States including: North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $ 3.7 billion. The length of the pipeline was to be 1886 miles, while carrying up to 570 thousand barrels of crude oil per day. Now, however, the completion of construction lying under a big question. The first protests began to emerge after it became clear that the pipeline will pass through the land, which the Indians consider sacred.

“In this region there are sacred stones, which went to pray our ancestors and the ancestors of our ancestors in order to ask for strength and protection for the coming year,” — said the protesters. Officially, the pipeline should not cross protected areas or areas designated for reservations. But it really takes place in less than a half mile from the residence of the Indians.

The project was approved in late July without consulting the residents in this area of people. Holding company Energy Transfer Partners, which builds, denies any wrongdoing. This company is the largest supplier of oil in the U.S., so the likelihood is high that the court would support her claim against the protesters, the newspaper reports the BBC.

We will remind, earlier hersel about how in the US children consume Indians.
