The iconic Sony building will be demolished in a year

Japanese Corporation Sony has announced plans to demolish its building in Tokyo’s Ginza district after March 2017. The vacant area manufacturer of high-tech products plans to build a Park, reports The Japan Times.

The Sony building is 707 square metres of land, it was built in 1966 by order of one of the company’s founders, Akio Morita. Every year it welcomes about four million people. In the building 13 floors: eight ground and five underground. Store and showrooms Sony take the levels from first to sixth.

It is expected that the building will be a Park, the creation of which is confined to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. It will conduct charitable, sporting and music events.

The new office construction to replace demolished Sony plans to begin in fall 2020 and finish in two years, reports The Japan Times.

Ginza is a major shopping district of Tokyo. Here are hundreds of specialty shops, restaurants, bars and clubs. The name of the place received from the mint, formerly located on the site — translated from Japanese Ginza means “silver house”.
