The EU draft Directive, under which EU countries could unilaterally ban foods with GMOs not approved by the European Parliament. Thus, no country in the community will not be able at its discretion to prohibit the sale and use on its territory of genetically modified food or feed.

MEPs are confident that all decisions on GMOs must be taken with total resolution in the EU.

The European Commission, for its part, has already declared that do not intend to withdraw the new draft EU legislation and begin discussions with the governments of the countries of the community.

In the EU since 2001, a de facto moratorium on GMOs. GM foods can be imported and sold in the EU if they have been approved by the European Agency for food safety (EFSA).

“In developed countries allowed the use of GMO products is not more than one percent. In this case the manufacturer shall indicate what is included in the composition. In the summer the meeting was held with the participation of Rospotrebnadzor, which said that even less than 0.1% GMO is considered a technological pollution. That is, even if it will test positive for the presence of GMOs in the product, it is considered a technological pollution”, – said Maksim Kutsev.
