The European Union agreed to give Turkey huge amounts of money on refugees.
The European Union in the summer of 2016 plans to provide Turkey with 1 billion euros in the framework of migration agreements to improve conditions for Syrian refugees. The head of the European Council Donald Tusk said during a visit to Turkey.
Tusk called Turkey an example to the world regarding the treatment of refugees.
“Today, Turkey is the best example for the whole world to treat refugees. I am proud that we are partners, and there is no other way,” said Tusk.
In turn, Prime Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu stressed that the implementation of the migration agreement between his country and the EU depends on the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU for Turkish citizens.
Donald Tusk, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the first Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans paid a visit to Turkey to discuss the immigration crisis.
During the meeting politicians visited the centre for Syrian refugees in Gaziantep province in southeastern Turkey.
