The damage from a series of attacks, blasts in Brussels on 22 March, amounted to almost 1 billion euros. According to the newspaper La Derniere heure, evidenced by the study conducted by the Ministry of economy of Belgium.
As a result of the terrorist attacks, income of private companies in the Brussels region in the first quarter of this year decreased at 122.5 million euros in Wallonia for 20 million euros, in Flanders, by 33 million euros. In addition, tax revenues declined by 760 million euros. Thus the total economic losses are estimated at 935,2 million euros. This equates to approximately 0.1 percent of the Kingdom’s GDP. The most affected hotel, restaurant and tourism business, and entertainment: many tourists refused previously planned trips.
The only one who benefited from the attacks, turned out to be taxi drivers, because due to disruptions in public transportation, many people began to use their services. Metro completely restored its work only a month after the attacks. Was also recorded the growth of sales of movie tickets, what can explain the reluctance of many of the inhabitants of Brussels to spend the evening on the summer terrace cafe, so vulnerable in case of attack.
