The Creator of Meldonium called drug prohibition a violation of human rights

Создатель мельдония назвал запрет препарата нарушением прав человека

Ban athletes for drug Meldonium, which was discovered in the blood of Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova, violates human rights. About it RIA Novosti was told by the maker of the drug Latvian academician Ivars kalvinš.

“This drug long on the market. A year sold about 2 million packages of this drug. This medication is not doping, it protects the heart from stress. I think that a ban on the use of the drug by athletes is a violation of human rights. All have a right to be healthy,” said kalvins.

Meldonium was synthesized in 1975 in Riga. Is a means of prophylactic treatment of a heart attack.

On 7-8 March it became known that the doping samples of several Russian athletes was found Meldonium prohibited from 1 January 2016. This substance is found in the blood of five-time world champion skater Paul Kulizhnikov, the winner of the Olympiad of 2014 in the relay, short the Seeds Elistratova speed skater, tennis player Maria Sharapova, skater, Olympic champion of Sochi-2014 Ekaterina Bobrova volleyball player Alexandra Markina.

World anti-doping Agency (WADA) classifies Meldonium to the category of S4 — hormones and modulators of metabolism. The athlete may be suspended from performances for four years.
