Thailand prepares to join the Eurasian economic Union (EEU). About this newspaper the Nation, citing Minister of foreign Affairs don Pramudwinai.
“Russia promised to support Thailand’s bid to become a new member of the EEU”, – quotes the edition of the Minister, noting that such application is in the process of preparation.
Don Pramudwinai earlier reported that the Thai authorities have already assessed the feasibility of establishing a free trade zone with the EEU, however, the city requires a certain amount of time to comply with the necessary internal procedures and to enter into negotiations.
“Indeed, already carried out economic evaluation of the feasibility of establishing a free trade area between Thailand and the EEC. It was made for the group of countries of the Customs Union, which includes only Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus. The results of the study are very positive both for Thailand and for the EEU”, – said the Minister. He also noted that Thailand “has not yet passed through all the necessary internal processes that will make the application and to enter into negotiations”.
The foreign Minister of Thailand said that Bangkok considers the EEU as a potential trading partner. “The free trade agreement will open new opportunities for Thai exporters in the Eurasian region and will contribute to strengthening economic ties between Thailand and member countries of the EEU in the first place with Russia’s largest trading partner in this group,” said don Pramudwinai.
“We count on the support of Russia and other members of the Union throughout the process of filing our application and negotiations”, – said the head of Thai diplomacy.
