Alexander Dolgopolov failed to make it to the third round of the clay masters in Madrid.
In the second round of the Ukrainian met with 11th-seeded Milos Raonic. Before the match in Madrid in the history of personal meetings players had two marks in Indian wells in 2014, Dolgopolov won the next year at the same tournament turned out to be stronger Raonic.
During the starting set Dolgopolov was repeatedly able to make the break, but the service each time was saved by Raonic. With the score 4:5 Ukrainian for the first time failed the game on his serve – the only blot was enough to lose the set.
In the second set, the tennis players on two organized only one break-point, tie-break and Dolgopolov avoided unforced errors and made nervous Raonic, who several times failed to move the ball on the opponent’s field.
Unfortunately, to build on their success Dolgopolov failed – the aggressive Raonic played its opening game of the decisive set, made the break and maintained their advantage.
